FOR FSX

AI Blackhawk models by John Young, Mike MacIntyre and Kevin Reed, MAIW

1. Introduction

This package contains 15 examples of the Republic of Korea Black Hawk helicopters in Army, Air Force, Navy and Presidential paint schemes. The models are supplied with kind permission of John Young at Military AI Works (MAIW).

No scenery or flight plans are included, so users are free to set up the helicopters as they wish using the normal AI traffic and AFCAD tools
.
Note that the helicopters are not designed to be user flyable.

2. Installation

Step 1 - Extract the contents of the zip file to a temporary folder on your hard drive. Ensure that the Use folder names?check box is activated in the Extract?screen of Winzip and the files in the archive will stay in the intended folders.

Step 2 - Place the aircraft in your FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes folder.

Step 3 - Place the effect file in your FSX\effects folder.

You will need to create your own AFCAD and traffic files for whatever airfields you wish to use. NB: the parking radius for the aircraft in FSX is 9M (30ft).

The glass on the aircraft is a reflective texture. Please enable in your FSX aircraft settings.

3. Animated Lift and Runway Length

These AI helicopters have animation built into the models to simulate the take-off lift and nose down tilt. It is triggered by xml code when the aircraft meets specified conditions in the code. Once the lift starts, the aircraft is accelerated forward by the conventional flight dynamics specified in the aircraft.cfg and .air files
.
The aircraft perform best on helicopter runways of about 900 feet. They will operate on longer runways but users may notice a more nose high touch down.

Note that because the aircraft is 10ft above the usual aircraft centre due to the animated lift, when viewed in flight in a Traffic Viewer window, the aircraft will be off centre and positioned towards the top of the screen.
